James Cole, M.D. grew up on a farm in Illinois where he and his family raised corn, soybeans, wheat, and cattle. He received a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Illinois in Champaign followed by a Medical Degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Afterward, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Cole moved to El Paso to join the Southwest Eye Institute in May of 2017 from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Dr. Cole has two sons in college and is an instrument-rated private pilot who has flown across the country from Florida to Washington state. Besides flying, his hobbies include cooking, gardening, oil painting, camping, hiking, and motorcycles. His favorite hobby of all is “helping people with cataract surgery.”
