Dr. Michelle Nicole Serrano grew up in El Paso, Texas. She received the Presidential Excellence Award to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where she worked as a neuroendocrine lab assistant prior to setting her course towards optometry. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude with honors in 2011 from UTEP. Dr. Serrano then proceeded to become an EPISD Biology STAAR tutor at Burges High School prior to starting optometry school.
Dr. Serrano graduated as salutatorian from the Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas. After completing her externship rotations, she decided to further her education by completing a residency in ocular disease and brain injury rehabilitation at the Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital and affiliated clinics in San Antonio, Texas. Afterwards, she worked for commercial optometry in Texas and Arizona prior to joining the doctors at Southwest Eye Institute in 2019.
Outside of work Dr. Serrano enjoys gardening, spending time with her husband and family, and trying new recipes.
