He also performs detailed evaluations for advanced vision correction options, including the Light Adjustable Lens™, LASIK, RLE, and PRK, guiding patients through their options to help determine the best solution for their vision needs, lifestyle, and goals.
Education and Medical Training
Dr. Lallathin received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pacific University and Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. Dr. Lallathin completed his externship at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, 2nd Armored Division Troop Medical Clinic, and 1st Calvary Division Troop Medical Clinic at Fort Hood, Texas. Upon completion of his externship, he went on to practice in Oklahoma before returning to Georgetown, Texas, to practice in a multidisciplinary eye clinic. He then moved to Lubbock, Texas, where he was employed by Texas Tech Health Sciences Center for 4 ½ years before joining the Department of Veterans Affairs. After 14 ½ years with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Lubbock, Texas, Dr. Lallathin transferred to the El Paso Department of Veterans Affairs in 2016, where he served as Chief of the Eye Clinic.
Professional Leadership & Accolades
Dr. Lallathin has lectured to numerous physicians, administrators, nurses, health technicians and public organizations on various topics, including glaucoma treatment, diabetic eye care, visual field techniques, tele-retinal imagining and Lean Six Sigma Eye Clinic Reconfiguration and Direct Clinical Scheduling. Dr. Lallathin received Quality Improvement Awards for his work on Eye Clinic Wait Times, Physician Leave Tracker and Direct Scheduling while at the El Paso Department of Veterans Affairs. During this time, he served as an adjunct faculty member and Primary Preceptor/Student Coordinator for the Rosenberg College of Optometry, served on the Traumatic Brain Injury and Low Vision Workgroups, the Office of Human Resources and Management Disciplinary Appeals Board and numerous committees.
Dr. Lallathin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and serves as a continuing education reviewer for the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE). Dr. Lallathin has published articles, “Cancer Treatment Impairs Dark Adaptation” for the Review of Optometry and “Glaucoma Awareness” for the Latino Lubbock newspaper. He filmed five patient education videos for the Department of Veterans Affairs that included macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, tele-retinal services and direct scheduling.
Personal Interests
Dr. Lallathin was born in Ohio and raised in Georgetown, Texas. He has a lifelong interest in ancient Roman history, enjoys baseball and barbecue cooking, and is deeply committed to preserving and protecting the gift of vision.
