Clinical Expertise

Dr. Mario A. Caballero is an experienced optometrist with a strong background in comprehensive eye care, including glaucoma management and ocular disease management, as well as primary care optometry, and will offer pre- and post-op care. Dr. Caballero is excited to dedicate personalized, patient-focused care to Southwest Eye Institute.

Education & Medical Training

Dr. Caballero earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in 1993. Following graduation, he served as an optometrist in the United States Army from 1993 to 2001, achieving the rank of Major while providing comprehensive eye care to service members and gaining extensive clinical experience.

After completing his military service, he transitioned into private practice, joining Dr. Richard Montes at Eastside Vision Center in 1996.

Academic & Teaching Experience

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Caballero has contributed to the education of future eye care professionals. He has served as an instructor in the El Paso Community College Ophthalmic Program and as an Adjunct Professor of Optometry at the University of Houston and Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.
